There’s no place like home. I am lucky that I have two homes – one in Krakow and now a second in Berkeley. We have been here for fewer than two weeks, and it already feels like at home.
The first week after returning from Poland was focused on trying to overcome jet-lag, unpacking the boxes and getting to know our new surroundings. So far I am delighted. There are more trees and beautiful flowers than in San Francisco, and I am loving the colored single-family houses around.
In the vicinity, as throughout the United States, it is hard not to notice preparations for Halloween. In addition, in the front yards one can see posters affiliating political sympathies of the house owners. The presidential campaign is a hot topic, but dominated by gossip about the latest from Donald Trump’s mouth.
Rose misses the daily loving care of my family she had in Cracow, but there are benefits here as well. As soon as she grows up a little bit, right around the corner swings are waiting for her, bike trails and at least two preschools. And next week we’re going together for Baby and Mommy Yoga 🙂
And for me and Dean I have already found a lot more cafes. There is even quite good French resto-bistro, cinema (maybe someday we will go to see a movie again), and that is pretty much it, after all we do live in the American suburbs. But I can see that we have chosen not only a lovely house, but also a very nice family community, and with time more attractions will hopefully come along.
Meanwhile, we need to prepare decorations and gifts for the Halloween Day. More to come next week. Stay tuned 🎃☠
