This morning for the first time I felt a real earthquake!

At 6:49 we were obviously not sleeping because of the baby. Suddenly our apartment began shaking, as if a tram went by.

For a moment I thought that maybe the upper floor neighbors were moving furniture, but something felt different. All lasted approximately 10 seconds. Dean knew immediately that it was an earthquake. He grew up in Los Angeles and even larger earthquakes are not alien to him.

We quickly checked the news on the Internet. Dean was right. The epicenter was located at the other side of the bay and measured 4.0 on the Richter scale.

Luckily nothing serious happened; there was no major damage. Phew, our cottage in Berkeley must be still standing!:)

Apparently there is no indication for another major after shock (small ones happen here regularly), and the daily heats (up to 40 degrees) are reported to be be ending.

See the recording of the broadcast straight from the TV studio.
