Rose will be nine months this week. She is crawling full speed, smiling a lot and absorbing her surroundings. Everything seems to be interesting for her, and she simply must touch everything. She is especially keen on exploring our dishwasher and fridge, but fortunately she still sleeps peacefully in the stroller during our walks.
But when she’s awake, she’s ready to go. Often, we attend some of the local activities available for children – yes, babies are welcome too!
Some of them are put on by the library, and they are usually free. Rosie seemed happy at the Sing-Along long event. She soaked it all in. At the end she even briefly played on the guitar.
I, however, have realized that I need to improve my knowledge of English song lyrics, because I usually murmur rather than sing. Luckily during one Music Time class we sang Yellow Submarine and Old MacDonald had a farm. One of the songs was played in Spanish. At this particular studio, I had to pay an entrance fee, but children under one year of age were excluded. Parents and caregivers pay about ten dollars and can spend all day at Studio Grow. There are also mats, swings, mini-kitchen and many toys for kids.
I also really enjoyed the music classes organized at a kid’s café in nearby Walnut Creek. I think they are raking in the cash. A drink, admission and snack could top 30 dollars. Children and parents seemed to be happy; it is worth paying the money for a stress-free coffee in a place where everyone has children. Mommy and me classes are a good opportunity for me to meet other moms, and Rose can observe other children (which she loves to do!)
Next week we are planning to explore another center for children. The first class is free. Subsequent classes are quite expensive. Well, I can always play a CD with Polish songs at our house, and Dean can play a tune on the guitar. We always can swing in the parks! And soon we install a sandbox in our backyard. So many and simple ways for early childhood education!
And here is a link to song about one popular spider…:)
